I have just added a “quick tips” section to the sidebar of Debt-free Scholar. Located directly under the “Sponsors” section, the “Bite-Sized College Tips” widget rotates through a variety of interesting tips explaining how to save money or time in college. Under each tip is a link to the post for more information about that particular tip. Every ten seconds, a new tip is shown. Here is a screenshot of the tips section:

How Does It Work?
Currently, the widget rotates through a total of 19 tips. Every 10 seconds a new, random tip is shown. As time goes on, I plan to keep the tips fresh by adding new tips (about 3 a week) and removing the oldest tips regularly.
What are the Tips Like?
Here are three example tips:
Study for the SAT using the Free Kaplan Quiz Bank. They have over 1,700 SAT questions!
– ’6 Free Resources for the SAT’
Study better by keeping your desk organized. People concentrate better in an orderly environment.
– ’5 Ways to Waste Study Time’
Save a $100 or more by using OpenOffice.org instead of an expensive office suite.
– ’9 Essential Free Programs For College’
What Do You Think?
I am very interested in hearing what you think about the new section. Please write your thoughts in the comments.

I love this feature! It’s already led me to check out one of your earlier posts.
As a new blogger, I’ve worried about some of my quality earlier posts getting buried in the archives. This is an ideal way to keep bringing them to the surface. It’s also a good test for me to be able to summarize the essence of a post in one sentence. If I can’t do that, maybe I ought to rethink the clarity of the post.
Nice feature! It adds to your site!

Thanks for your feedback! In case you are interested in using it on your own blog, the plugin that I used to make the “Bite-Sized College Tips” section is called the Quote Rotator. You can download it directly from the plugin search area on your dashboard or from the plugin’s website: http://www.lukehowell.com/quote-rotator/
Thanks,
Nate
Excellent feature Nate especially for those of us in a hurry!
I like the fact that each tip comes with a link for more information. Now do share how to add this rotating feature to a blog. My quotes do not rotate and I would love to add that feature…
Thanks again for being such a helpful blogger on the 31day challenge too!
Cheers,
Elizabeth
Okay, I just saw you gave Vicki the widget info above…. You’re the best.
Thanks again Nate!
