Once a week I try to review some book related to college in order to lend some guidance to a field that has become completely overrun. So many people are writing test guides and college help books that it is easy to buy a product which is not useful and which will be occupying space on your bookshelf for years, mocking your bad judgment.
What is the biggest problem most college students face? The extremely high cost of attending college. A few weeks ago, while I was looking for a good book to review on Debt-free Scholar, I came upon a book by the title of 100 Ways to Cut the High Costs of Attending College it is written by Michael P Rockstar games social club. Viollt. This book caught my attention for two reasons. First, it is in list format. I have found that when books or articles are written in list format the tasks in them are usually more doable because they are broken down into bite-sized steps. The second reason that I was interested in this book was the topic. I am always interested in new and better ways to save money in college.
This book can be divided into seven sections not including the first introductory chapters. Each section is filled with tips related to a particular facet of your college education some focus on finances, others on time, and still others on value cover of the self-introduction.
Lowering the List Price
This first part of the book presents seventeen tips to help college students find lower rates on necessary purchases such as tuition, transportation, housing, and books. For example, they explain that some schools price their tuition higher simply to make themselves appear to be on the same level as a better school. Do not assume that a higher price means a better education. Instead, try to find a college that sets its tuition price based on real costs. State colleges often use this approach and are, therefore, an excellent choice financially 메이즈 러너 3 다운로드.
Cutting the Time
This second section is based on a very simple premise: If you spend less time completing college, you will also spend less money paying for college. To help you spend less time in college, this section lists a number of simple, yet often overlooked, time-saving methods. For instance, they explain how choosing your major before you start will save you time and money. If you take general classes for the first year or two before choosing your major, you will most likely have to spend more than four years in college. Even worse, if you, like many students, change majors two or three times you will have to take extra classes, and you might even have to transfer to a different school that focuses more on you new major 애플 모하비! By following the tips outlined in this chapter, you can drastically cut your time which in turn will save you money.
Getting Financial Aid
Financial aid is a massive subject covering topics from scholarships to private and public grants to college aid packages, so the one chapter on it in this book obviously can only scratch the surface. Taking into consideration the space restrictions, however, Michael Viollt does an excellent job of unveiling some important keys to the world of free money. He explains how to get some of the different types of scholarships such as state academic scholarships, institutional achievement scholarships, and, the best known, athletic scholarships 약장수. You might wonder what they would say about athletic scholarships. Are they really possible to the average athlete? Contrary to popular belief, athletic scholarships are possible, but only if you start preparing in high school and this book explains where to start.
In this section, they cover the boring subjects savings plans (e.g. bonds, 529 investment plans) and tax breaks (e.g. Hope Tax Credit, Lifetime Learning Tax Credit). Frankly, I did not enjoy this section, but, nonetheless, it is a very important topic. For example, the Lifetime Learning Tax Credit alone can save you as much as $2,000 Download Stray Ner! This part of the book is made more interesting by the addition of various charts showing how much money can be saved for college depending on when you start. It makes me wish that I had started saving earlier! If you, like me, are tempted to skip this section, do not do so! This is one of the most useful parts of the entire book!
Unusual Money Sources
This is a more interesting section, as they explain numerous ways to pay for college. Some of the methods presented here are common 마탄의 사수 다운로드. For instance, they mention working while in college a method which 75% of college students already utilize. However, many of the tips outlined in this chapter are new to me. For example, they explain that some private companies will actually pay their employees to attend college. General Electric, Sears, Verizon Communications, and the U.S. Postal Service are just some of the companies in my area that offer tuition reimbursement. After reading this section, you should have some fresh ideas to help find money for college download fm 2017.
Diverging slightly from the main topic of cutting college costs, this chapter explains how to get the most out of your education. Many of the tips explained here are very useful. Tips such as avoiding party schools, attending good public universities, and matching your learning style will help you get more for your money. However, there is one tip that I disagree about. Just after explaining how to avoid scams, the author warns his readers to be careful of distance learning Download the Python library. I do agree with him to a point there are some scammers who will send you fake certificates while pretending to teach you. However, wouldnt this point fit better under the scam section? If used correctly, distance learning is an excellent way to get your degree. You can save money and time while getting a better education than is available at most schools. Overall though, this section is useful and well-worth reading I just have the one complaint.
Think Long Term
Continuing in the theme of getting the most for your money, this last chapter will help you get a degree that will be useful next year, and the next year, and the next year, and the next year 군산 거위를 노래하다 다운로드. You will learn to think of your education as a long-term investment one that will continue to pay dividends years down the road. This last chapter touches on one of my favorite subjects networking. College is a great time to build your network. With minimal work, you can develop lasting friendships with your fellow students and even your professors. Once you leave school, using your network correctly can help you get a job more quickly and will help build your reputation as an expert in your chosen field. Surprisingly though, many students do not work at networking. When college is finished, they find themselves back on square one trying to find a job without a large network of friends to help and encourage them. This chapter covers topics that many students do not think of until it is too late.
