Happy Independence Day!

Happy July Fourth!

It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.
~ John Adams, July 3, 1776

On July 4th, two hundred and thirty-three years ago, fifty-six brave men signed the document that gave us our freedom. The Declaration of Independence signaled our official break with the government of England.

As we celebrate Independence Day this year, let us not forget the reason for this holiday. Let us remember the brave men, our founding fathers, who risked, and in many cases lost, their life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness – that we might be free today.

Let us follow their noble example and commemorate the day “by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty“, as John Adams, a signer of the Declaration and the second US president, recommended in a letter to his wife.

Remember, today is not simply a day to have fun; it is a day to remember the monumental sacrifices that have been given that we might be free.
